How Does a Plant-Based Lifestyle Impact Your Health and the Environment?

Plant-based living has gained popularity in recent years, and for good reason. Not only does this living style benefit our health and well-being, but it also has a positive impact on the environment. It's no wonder that millions of people around the world are transitioning to this cleaner and healthier lifestyle.

One of the biggest advantages of using plant-based personal care products is that they are typically free from harsh chemicals and additives that can irritate the skin and cause long-term damage. Many conventional beauty and cosmetic products are filled with synthetic ingredients that can clog pores, cause allergies, and disrupt hormone levels. Plant-based products, on the other hand, are made from natural ingredients like herbs, fruit extracts, cold-pressed and essential oils that nourish the skin without harmful side effects. Additionally, plant-based products are usually cruelty-free and environmentally sustainable, making them a more ethical choice for conscientious consumers.

Similarly, consuming a plant-based diet can have a multitude of benefits for our health. Studies have shown that plant-based diets can help to lower the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer. Plant-based diets also are typically lower in saturated fats and cholesterol, creating an abundance of heart-healthy meal options. Something else to note that I've personally taken a real interest in... plant-based diets are rich in essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that support overall health and well-being.  Since transitioning to a plant-based diet a year and a half ago, I've made it my mission to consume as many nutrient-dense foods as possible each day.  So, in actuality, it's not really a "diet" at all, but more of a means to nourish one's self with foods that are good for your body and better for the environment.

Animal agriculture is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and water pollution. By reducing or eliminating animal products from our diets, we can help to reduce our carbon footprint and slow the pace of climate change. Plant-based eating also requires fewer resources like water and land, making food options more sustainable for feeding a growing global population.  Check out our suggested video list below for more information on this topic.

At our little Valley Green hobby farm in the foothills of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, we work to do our part in producing body-safe and eco-friendly options for natural personal care products that people use every day.  Our oils and plant extracts are cold-pressed or steam-distilled; never chemically extracted.  We've carefully studied body hazard ratings on every element found in our entire product line to ensure that we use only the cleanest, curated ingredients.  We want our customers to know that they can buy Valley Green Naturals plant-based personal care products with confidence.

Similarly, transitioning to a whole food, plant-based diet has changed our health in innumerable ways with healthy weight loss, lower blood pressure and lower cholesterol being the highest achievements.  Last year, we launched ValleyGreenVegan.com, our podcast and recipe blog for "born-again eaters."  I hope you'll check it out and try some of the delicious recipes we've posted from our whole-food, plant-based journey!

Using plant-based personal care products and eating a plant-based diet -- just those two actions -- can offer numerous benefits to our health, farming and the environment. By making conscious choices to support plant-based options, we not only improve our own well-being, but also contribute to a more sustainable and ethical world.

Whether you are looking to improve your skin, support your health, or reduce your environmental impact, incorporating plant-based products and foods into your lifestyle is a simple and effective way to make an enormously positive difference.
