Here at Valley Green, we love coconut oil for its amazing natural body-care benefits, which explains why we use it as an ingredient in more than ten of our products. Coconut oil can be used to condition your hair or moisturize your body, but did you know that this same hydrating oil can be used in your kitchen pantry, as well as your medicine cabinet?
Studies have shown that despite coconut oil being high in saturated fat, it is actually the healthiest oil with which to cook. In fact, coconut oil has actually been proven to contribute to weight loss. This is because the saturated fats in coconut oil come from medium chain triglycerides, which improve cholesterol levels, while boosting metabolism, energy and endurance.
The primary medium chain triglyceride in coconut oil is Lauric Acid, an antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiviral, anti-parasitic, antioxidant, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory fatty acid that makes this oil protective against a vast range of infections. With properties like these, coconut oil can be used to treat everything from toothaches, to pink eye!
Aside from the healthy benefits that come from cooking with this multi-purpose oil, it also just plain tastes good! Practically anything you cook with butter or margarine can be replaced with this healthier alternative. Mix it in with your favorite cake, use it to saute your veggies for dinner, or even drizzle it over popcorn. Coconut oil is also highly resistant to oxidation at high heat, which makes it great for deep-frying!
Whether you are applying it to your skin, adding it to your dinner, or using it to fight off the nasties, coconut oil is an all-natural alternative that can be used for something different every day!
